The ninth international conference on indoor positioning and indoor navigation (IPIN) was held in Nantes, western France, from Sept 24 to 27, 2018. In the indoor positioning competition held by the conference, the Wuhan university team, under the guidance of Prof. Chen Ruizhi from LIESMARS and Prof. Niu Xiaoji from GNSS center, won the champion of track3(based on consumption level of the Smartphone based Positioning) and track4 ( based on professional application of the Foot-Mounted IMU based Positioning ). This is the second time that Wuhan University obtained the IPIN competition after 2015.
To close the real situation of positioning service, the indoor localization competition of IPIN first held at a large shopping center. More than ten teams from all over the world competed in this real shopping mall over 9000 square meters. The Wuhan University team joined in two items (tarck3 and track4).

The IPIN is one of the three major indoor positioning competitions in the world. The organizers of other two competitions are the American national institute of standards and technology (NIST) and the Microsoft respectively. All the members of our team are come from the “high-availability high-precision indoor intelligent hybrid positioning and indoor GIS technology" project mainly composed of doctoral and postgraduate students, which is belong to the “13th
Five-Year” national key research and development program led by Prof. Chen Ruizhi. In May, this team won one of the three major competitions held by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
