The final of the First "Intel Cup"- Graduate Artificial Intelligence Competition was held in Deqing County, Zhejiang Province on November 22-25, 2019. Peng Chengwei, a master's student from LIESMARS won the first prize for his work of "A Pedestrian Retrieval System Based on Pedestrian Re-identification". Prof. Zhong Yanwen and Prof. Pan Shaoming won the award of excellent instructor.
Based on the technology of person re-identification, Peng Chengwei's works can retrieve people from the surveillance video of real scenes without the active cooperation of pedestrians, which can save a lot of time and labor cost. At the same time, the model can be trained on a common dataset and then migrated to different application scenarios with very low deploying costs.
The competition is co-sponsored by the ministry of education and the Youth Science and Technology Center of the China Association for Science and Technology. A total of 1,217 teams from 193 universities across the country registered for the competition, 6 works won the first prize. The Graduate Affairs Department of the CPC Wuhan University Committee and School of Computer Science earnestly conducted team training, gave guidance, and organized rehearsals for the competition.
