Coastal zones occupy less than 15% of the Earth's land area, while they host more than 97% of the world population. Therefore coastal erosion management has become a topic of prime concern for coastal countries. In this study, Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI) was introduced for erosion of Sri Lanka Southwestern coast.Decision model was prepared using GIS integrated with Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP). The study revealed that 58.3% of the coastline is vulnerable to erosion and 29.4% is less vulnerable. Only 12.25% is in the secured state. Two hot spots were identified for immediate attention. This paper was published in the NATURAL RESOURCE MODELING JOURNAL indexed by SCI.
