
On the evening of October 8, the laboratory held an online meeting for the international freshmen of 2021, with more than 30 freshmen attending the meeting.
Professor Wu Huayi, deputy director of the laboratory gave the welcoming address. On behalf of the laboratory, he warmly welcomed the 38 international freshmen to join the laboratory. He said that Wuhan University is one of the most beautiful universities in the world. Unfortunately, students are temporarily unable to arrive at the university due to the pandemic, but the beautiful campus is waiting for them to come. He expressed his hope that during their study period, students will study hard, develop their scientific research and academic ability, and contribute to the future development of not only themselves but also to science and society.

Subsequently, Timo Balz, associate dean of the International School of Geospatial Information Science and full-time professor of the laboratory, introduced LIESMARS to the new students.

Then, Ms. Guan Lin, director of the Laboratory International Student Training Office, explained in detail the curriculum. She also introduced the online academic reports, short courses and academic exchange activities organized by the Star Lake Forum, as well as the English GeoScience Café and summer schools to the students.

On the evening of October 11, the ice-breaking activity for freshmen of international students in the laboratory was held online. Students actively shared their research interests and introduced their country and customs to everyone.
